New Jersey voters on Tuesday elected Democrat Phil Murphy to replace outgoing Republican Gov. Chris Christie. Polls ahead of the vote had heavily favored Murphy, a former Goldman Sachs executive and US ambassador, over the Republican, current Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno. The Democrats felt confident thanks to Christie’s truly abysmal standing among voters, with just 15 percent of the state approving of the beach-loving Bridgegate governor.
