Today, the science-friendly Internet was aghast at the above tweet from “Wheel of Fortune” host and former weatherman Pat Sajak.

It isn’t really clear what Sajak means by “racist.” But perhaps he’s channeling a strain of conservative argument best epitomized by the book “Eco-Imperialism: Green Power, Black Death,” by Paul Driessen. According to Amazon.com, it argues that the environmental movement “imposes the views of mostly wealthy, comfortable Americans and Europeans on mostly poor, desperate Africans, Asians and Latin Americans.”

Of course, the reality of the situation is that those who will be most impacted by the extremes of climate change are the world’s poorest and most vulnerable.

Sajak’s tweet was worthy of Donald Trump. But this response, created by science blogger Greg Laden was just priceless:

You might need to buy a vowel here. Science, though, is totally free.

And it’s plain now that his administration intends to do everything it can to stop journalists from reporting things they don’t like—which is most things that are true.

No one gets to tell Mother Jones what to publish or not publish, because no one owns our fiercely independent newsroom. But that also means we need to directly raise the resources it takes to keep our journalism alive. There’s only one way for that to happen, and it’s readers like you stepping up.
