Clinton needs to energize the dormant better angels in our society and those disillusioned and left out, and enlist their energy in a vision for a country closer to our ideals. End poverty. Education for all our children. Wipe out discrimination.

We’ve drifted to plutocracy. Unless President Clinton faces it and presents a desirable alternative he, too, will fail, and if he does, the cost to this government, the country, and its people will be absolutely enormous. We’ve dismantled so much of our government and government-related efforts to provide necessities for society that unless he acts we can’t hold back the miseries.

And it’s plain now that his administration intends to do everything it can to stop journalists from reporting things they don’t like—which is most things that are true.

No one gets to tell Mother Jones what to publish or not publish, because no one owns our fiercely independent newsroom.
