John Bolton, a George W. Bush-era ambassador to the United Nations and foreign policy adviser to Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign, has been dropping hints to the media that he might want to run for president in 2016. In the meantime, he’s palling around with once-Republican presidential candidate and former House member Thaddeus McCotter on Fox News. On Wednesday, Kennedy, a 1990s-era MTV VJ turned libertarian champion, asked the pair to weigh in on Cuddlr, a Grindr or Tinder-like app that helps you find strangers to cuddle with. The conversation was…strange. But don’t worry, Bolton made sure to get in an attack on President Obama for discussing climate change before they went to commercial break.

“Lying.” “Disgusting.” “Scum.” “Slime.” “Corrupt.” “Enemy of the people.” Donald Trump has always made clear what he thinks of journalists. And it’s plain now that his administration intends to do everything it can to stop journalists from reporting things they don’t like—which is most things that are true.

No one gets to tell Mother Jones what to publish or not publish, because no one owns our fiercely independent newsroom. But that also means we need to directly raise the resources it takes to keep our journalism alive. There’s only one way for that to happen, and it’s readers like you stepping up.
