Watch: The Same Bush League All Over Again [Cartoon]

Republicans are back in the House and Bush is back in the news: time for a sing-a-long.

Mother Jones illustrator Zina Saunders creates editorial animations riffing on the political news and current events of the week. In this week’s animation, the results of the midterm elections have Zina experiencing déjà vu back to the Bush years. Republican ideas just haven’t changed that much. [Click here to read MoJo‘s special report on Tuesday’s elections.] Watch the animation and sing along with the lyrics posted below. And since you ask: Yes, Saunders does all her own awesome songs and cartoon voiceovers.—The Editors

Here are the lyrics, written and performed by Zina:

It’s déjà vu all over again
It’s the same Bush lie about “tax and spend”

The same Bush anger and the same Bush hate
With the same Bush pals that they won’t regulate

The same Bush League who made our houses go bust
The same Bush League who turned our savings into dust

The same Bush League who took our jobs away
The same Bush League who want the poor to pay

The same Bush League who sent us off to war
The same Bush League that we had before

It’s déjà vu all over again
The same Bush League that seems to never end

OUR DEADLINE MATH PROBLEM

It’s risky, but also unavoidable: A full one-third of the dollars that we need to pay for the journalism you rely on has to get raised in December. A good December means our newsroom is fully staffed, well-resourced, and on the beat. A bad one portends budget trouble and hard choices.

The December 31 deadline is drawing nearer, and if we’re going to have any chance of making our goal, we need those of you who’ve never pitched in before to join the ranks of MoJo donors.

We simply can’t afford to come up short. There is no cushion in our razor-thin budget—no backup, no alternative sources of revenue to balance our books. Corporations and powerful people with deep pockets will never sustain the fierce journalism we do. That’s why we need you to show up for us right now.
