WATCH: Are You Christian Enough for the GOP? [Saunders Cartoon]

Editors’ note: Mother Jones illustrator Zina Saunders creates editorial animations riffing on the political news and current events of the week. In this week’s animation, GOP candidates Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, and Rick Santorum battle over who’s the most Christian choice for president. Who will emerge as the certified Christian pick? Hint: One of the contenders said John F. Kennedy’s speech about the separation of church and state “makes [him] want to throw up.” The animation, as always, was written, animated and acted by Zina Saunders.

Dear Reader,

This feels like the most important fundraising drive since I've been CEO of Mother Jones, with staggeringly high stakes and so much uncertainty. In "News Is Just Like Waste Management," I try to unpack the reality we all face and how we can rise to the challenge. If you're able to, this is a critical moment to support Mother Jones’ nonprofit journalism: We need to raise $400,000 to help cover the vital reporting projects we have planned, and right now is no time to pull back.
